COUNSELING EXPERIENCE

Psychotherapist, Mt. Tom Center for Mental Health & Recovery, Holyoke, MA, 2005 to Oct., 2008.

Work with individuals and couples, including family therapy with adults and children; homeless issues and substance abuse issues. Methodologies include: psychodynamic therapy; CBT; Transactional Analysis; Narrative Therapy, Gestalt; readings; exercises; career counseling; addictions counseling. Attend weekly team meetings, plus one hour of supervision per week; case management; case presentations.

Crisis Counselor, Crisis Services, Springfield, MA, 2006.

Received calls from individuals in crisis, including homelessness; kept extensive notes on computer and on paper; filed reports; traveled to hospitals to interview clients.

Psychotherapist, Amherst College Counseling Center, Amherst, MA; Internship, 2004-2005.

Provided individual psychotherapy to college students on issues including depression, anxiety, addictions (including gambling addiction), adjustment disorders, creative blocks, and bereavement. Formulated and gave case presentations; participated in weekly staff and training meetings; received 2.5 hours of weekly supervision; prepared case notes for each session, and summary notes at the end of each semester. The orientation of the counseling center is Cognitive Behavioral, Multicultural, and Psychodynamic.

Led and co-led groups for primarily court-mandated male batterers; presented psycho-educational information to group participants; provided individual mental health counseling to abusive men; received one hour of weekly supervision.

Supported clients in daily activities, such as shopping and organizing household, companionship; worked with clients with diagnoses of Asperger’s, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Borderline, etc.; attended weekly team meetings and received one hour of supervision per week.

Founded and led weekly Friendship Group addressing issues of making and keeping friends, relationship building, and emotional support.

Lived with two clients with autism spectrum disorders; one for three years and the other for a year, created atmosphere of safety and support; organized schedule; helped clients make friends and socialize.
